The Charles County Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee (SECAC) annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation Awards ceremony is set for May 15.
The SECAC advises and assists the Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services special education and related services with assuring that children with disabilities, ages 3 through 21, and their families have access to appropriate education and related services.
The annual awards celebrate the commitment of Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff members who work with students with special needs. Parents and guardians can nominate CCPS staff members for an award to recognize outstanding work and kindness. Any staff member — teachers, building service workers, bus drivers, counselors, cafeteria staff, secretaries, principals, assistant principals, librarians and others — who have made a difference in the life of a student with special needs is eligible for recognition. The nomination application for a staff member in English is available at www.ccboe.com. The nomination form in Spanish is also linked at the school system’s website.
The SECAC has nominations for a Buddy Award given to students who have shown extreme kindness to a student with special needs. The nomination form in English for the Buddy Award can be found here. The Spanish version of the nomination form is available here.
