Munachi Obinali, a La Plata High School junior and current Student Member of the Board of Education, has been elected to serve in the position for next school year. A total of 3,521 votes were cast in the election held April 7 through May 6, with students in Grades 6-12 eligible to vote.

Obinali received 55% of the overall votes, with her opponent, Maurice J. McDonough High School Sophomore Riley Mullikin, coming in a close second with 44% of the overall votes. Obinali will officially be sworn into the role for the 2026-2027 school year next month.

Student Board members, also known as the SMOB, serve one-year terms, and an election process for the position is held annually.
